Snacking is truly one of my favorite past times but I often find that the convenient snack foods are not typically the most healthy options. In fact, healthy snacks are often difficult to find, higher priced and sometimes require a trip to a specialty store. If only there was an inexpensive and convenient way to find new delicious and healthy snacks.
Fortunately, the good folks at Goody Gorilla were already on top of this problem and created a monthly snack subscription box! Each box contains 6-10 snacks and many are gluten free, vegan, and/or organic. All of the products are clearly labeled to help subscribers identify whether they are gluten free or vegan. In addition, Goody Gorilla subscription boxes also contain “splurge” treats which may not be quite as healthy as the other goodies, but are sure to be delicious.
The box that I received contained seven items. As I was unpacking the box, it really felt like they had packed more snacks than I thought could be possible into one little package. Although I knew that each box would contain 6-10 items, in my mind I think I was expecting more like four or five. The sheer number of snacks allows you to have one or two per week if divided across an entire month. Or, you could have one per day for about a week. In any case, it does seem like a good number of snacks per box.
While each box is going to be new and different, I’ll share with you what was in my box to give you an idea of what types of items you might expect in yours.
Peeled Snacks Berry Apple Clusters- These are a gluten free, organic snack which are non-GMO verified. Each bag contains a total of 1.5 puff dried apples. They have been created into little ball shapes which have a nice crunch to them.
Boom Chicka Pop Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn- This is an organic snack which is also non-GMO and dairy, soy, and gluten free. It contains only four ingredients, so all you are getting is real food inside. As the name indicates this is good for both a sweet and salty snacking mood. Like the Apple Clusters, it is also a crunchy snack.
Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies- The cute little bunnies are another organic snack which is made with non-GMO ingredients. This one does contain gluten in its wheat flour. This particular snack reminds me of other cheese flavored crackers but unlike those brands, Annie’s does not contain any food coloring or ingredients that you can’t pronounce. It is all real food that you can feel good about eating.
Nunes Farms Roasted Salted Mixed Nuts- Well, this is a bag of nuts. No gluten, no sugar, just nuts. What I love about this particular mix is that it does not contain peanuts. I get so tired of peanuts because they are in every trail mix, snack mix, and nut mix. Thank goodness these only have almonds, cashews, and pecans. What a treat!
Natural Hachiya Persimmons- This snack is a Goody Gorilla snack highlight in my box. They contain one single ingredient: California Hachiya Persimmons. While all of the previous snacks have been crunchy, this one provides a more chewy experience. I like that they mixed it up a little bit by adding the dried fruit.
Pure Organic Wildberry Apple Fruit Strip- Like many other products in this box, it is gluten free, organic, and non-GMO. Additionally, this snack is also vegan. This is another chewy snack and unlike other fruit leathers or fruit rolls, this one is composed entirely of fruit and vegetable juices with citrus pectin to provide the chewy gelatinous texture. This is the kind of snack you could feel good about giving to your kids. That is, if you don’t hide them and save them all for yourself.
Stash Double Bergamot Earl Grey Black Tea- The final item in my snack box was a tea bag. Unfortunately, I am not a big tea drinker, so I had to offer this to a friend. As the weather cools down, I do think that teas and other hot beverages are a great addition to a snack box.
What I love about a snack box subscription is that the snacks come right to your house every month. There is no driving to different stores looking for special snacks. Also, you will never get tired of eating the same thing over and over because the snacks are changed up each month. This would make a fantastic holiday gift for a foodie or health fan in your life. Goody Gorilla is also perfect as a Secret Santa gift! This would also be a fun gift for kids to receive because it lets them try new foods without the obligation of having to commit to a large package of them from a retail store.
Goody Gorilla is offering a great special of $3 off all subscriptions through 12/15! Just use code HOLIDAY3 when placing your order. To make sure your recipients receive their gifts on time, all orders placed by December 15th at midnight PST will be delivered on or before December 24th!
